Department of Chemistry

" Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood"- Marie Curie

About

The Department of Chemistry of Polba Mahavidyalaya was established in 2016. Since then, the department has been involved in teaching a three-year general degree course in chemistry affiliated to The University of Burdwan.

The main objective of the department is to develop an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles of all the major branches of chemistry among the students. This department has a well-equipped laboratory where students acquire hands-on skills through various chemistry experiments. The departmental library provides space for the students to share knowledge via co-learning from different resources. The department regularly organizes seminars, invited talks and field visits. The department is  committed to provide quality education for students to get  a clear vision and mindset for achieving  a successful carrier with academic excellence. Also, we firmly believe that our teaching will build environmental concerns among our students and spread awareness to the society.

Vision:

·Provide strong fundamental knowledge in basic chemistry at the undergraduate level.
·Introduce innovative teaching protocols that  will develop  the  professional  etiquette among the students.
·Instill a passion for lifelong learning, fostering an attitude of continuous curiosity and adaptability to new advancements in the field of chemistry and related sciences.
·Emphasize the role of chemistry in addressing global challenges such as climate change, sustainability, healthcare, and energy. Equip students with the knowledge to contribute to solutions for these pressing issues.
·Promote the integration of chemistry with other scientific disciplines (e.g., biology, physics, environmental science) to solve complex problems and inspire cross-disciplinary research and development.

Mission:

·Offer a comprehensive curriculum that covers the essential areas of chemistry, including organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, and biochemistry.
·Encourage students to engage in scientific research, promoting hands-on experiences and critical analysis to develop a deeper understanding of chemistry..
·Equip students with the necessary laboratory and computational skills to solve complex scientific problems and conduct experiments safely and effectively.
·Foster a commitment to ethical practices in science, sustainability, and the application of chemistry to address global challenges.
