Department of Botany

Discovering the Science of Plants

About

    • The department of Botany of Polba Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 2016. Since then, the department has been involved in teaching a three-year general degree course in Botany affiliated to The University of Burdwan. The main object of the department is to develop an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles of all the major branches of botany among the students.
    • This department has a well-equipped laboratory and a well stocked college library which is freely accessible by the students.
    • The department tries to takes a conscious effort to expand its teaching program bringing together novel developments in the field with traditional areas of Botany through projects and field excursions. The department developed a medicinal plants garden.
    • The department also provides a Herbarium Unit for the students.

Vision and Mission:

  • Our mission is to study the botany by loving the nature and to sustain excellent environmental development.
  • Our vision is to maintain our position as the premier department of excellent learning research in Botany and to further commit ourselves to academic excellence.
  • To start Major Four Year''s course.
  • To improve teaching quality.
  • Up gradation of knowledge in recent trends and developments in Botany.
  • To apply for research projects.
  • To guide and support the students for project work in the subject (mushroom cultivation, bio-fertilizer production).
  • To grow up and maintain the rare species of plants.
  • To conserve the biodiversity of plants in this  locality.
  • To conduct seminars on different topics.
  • Prepare a mini digital herbarium section.
