The Polba Mahavidyalaya, Hooghly was established in 2005, under the University of Burdwan with a graduation program in the college. The Honours in Education program has been introduced in 2015, and that has been continuing successfully till now. The General and Hons. Education programs play very significant learning and remedial roles in balancing the socioeconomic fabric of the communities at local, regional, and state levels. Since members of the community are the most valuable resource units of society, the young members of the society need to be taken care of and properly nurtured in the form of basic education to achieve a better quality of life. This warrants an all-round development of the members, which can be achieved by building strong foundations in the education discipline. The Department of Education is responsible for the development of Educational Studies, Teacher Training, and literacy development in the country. It has its broader scope of the “universalization of education” and making better citizens out of our young brigade. For this, various new schemes and initiatives are taken up regularly, and recently those schemes and initiatives have also started paying dividends in the form of growing enrolment in colleges.
The main objectives of the Department would be:
- · Prompting Educational Studies as an independent academic discipline.
- Implementing the ‘National Educational Policy’ (NEP, 2020) and to ensure that it is implemented in letter and spirit.
- · Paying special attention to equity in education, particularly the disadvantaged and marginalized groups, like the poor, females, backward classes, and minorities.
- · Providing help to students for getting Govt. financial assistance in the form of scholarships etc. to deserving students from deprived sections of society.
